O-CEI Project

Open – Collection Effectiveness Index facilitating Europe’s transition to a more sustainable infrastructure

Project durationProject valueCo-funding
2025-20281 200 000,00 PLN (≈ 281 250,00 EUR)
840 000,00 PLN (≈ 196 875.00 EUR)

O-CEI project unites 58 partners from 20 countries. As a Horizon Europe Innovation Action program, O-CEI aims to create an open CEI platform with a strong focus on interoperability, security, and reliability, making it easier for different sectors to collaborate and share data in real-time. This will enable faster, more accurate predictions in energy flexibility, helping industries to become more adaptable to energy demands. O-CEI will support Europe’s transition to a more sustainable and resilient digital infrastructure, paving the way for cleaner energy and more efficient use of resources. Phoenix System will help develop and supply the technology necessary.

IPCEI-CIS project

Phoenix-RTOS – the foundation for the Distributed Multi Provider Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum

Project durationProject valueCo-funding
2024-202630 114 657,00 PLN (≈ 7 090 000,00 EUR)
22 020 589,28 PLN (≈ 5 200 000,00 EUR)

The goal of IPCEI-CIS project, Phoenix Systems is developing a scalable, open-source version of Phoenix-RTOS tailored for Edge-IoT applications across multiple industry sectors. Designed to support far-edge processing, the system will be enhanced with new execution environments, safety assurance methods, and application hosting mechanisms to meet diverse industrial requirements. During the FID phase, next-generation Edge-IoT devices running Phoenix-RTOS will be developed and validated through proof-of-concept use cases in key verticals, followed by short manufacturing series to demonstrate practical deployment potential.

COGNIT Project

A Cognitive Server less Framework for the Cloud-Edge Continuum (AI-enabled Cognitive Cloud for Europe’s Cloud-Edge Continuum)

Project durationProject valueCo-funding
2020-20231 890 900, PLN (≈ 445 000,00 EUR)
1 890 900, PLN (≈ 445 000,00 EUR)

As part of the COGNIT Project, Phoenix Systems is transforming traditional energy meters into Smart Energy Assistants by combining its Phoenix-RTOS operating system with machine learning and Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) capabilities. This innovation allows real-time energy management by offloading complex processing tasks to a dynamic Cloud-Edge Continuum. The project introduces a seamless, secure environment for deploying IoT and edge applications, enabling developers to optimize performance, latency, energy efficiency, and security across distributed infrastructure. The COGNIT consortium includes partners such as OpenNebula, Umeå University, IKERLAN, RISE, SUSE, ACISA, and others.

Phoenix-RTOS 178

New version of the Phoenix-RTOS operating system dedicated for implementation of systems compliant with the DO-178C safety standard

Project durationProject valueCo-funding
2020-20239 340 317,50 PLN ( ≈ 2 075 000,00 EUR)
5 636 321,11 PLN ( ≈ 1 245 000,00 EUR)

This project aims to develop Phoenix-RTOS 178, a DO-178C DAL A certifiable version of the Phoenix-RTOS operating system, tailored for safety-critical aviation applications such as UAVs and avionics systems. Existing certified OS options are mostly US-based and restricted by export regulations, making a European alternative essential. Built on the modular, microkernel-based Phoenix-RTOS 3 (BSD-licensed), the new version will meet the highest certification standards, with full Certification Data Package support for integrators. Phoenix-RTOS 178 will first be implemented in autopilot systems by uAvionics, targeting the certified UAV market. It will also be offered to other Polish aviation manufacturers and international companies operating locally, such as Rockwell Collins.

Phoenix-RTOS 3.0

Microkernel-based, real-time operating system for low-power, software-defined IoT appliances

Project durationProject valueCo-funding
2017-20203 300 316,40 PLN ( ≈ 735 000,00 EUR)
1 858 055,12 PLN ( ≈ 412 000,00 EUR)

The goal of this project is to develop Phoenix-RTOS 3—a new, microkernel-based version of the Phoenix-RTOS operating system optimized for low-power IoT devices. It addresses the limitations of the monolithic version 2, enabling better scalability, modularity, and support for microcontrollers. As part of the project, software implementations of communication protocols such as G3-PLC, 802.15.4, 802.15.4g, and Wireless M-Bus will be developed. Phoenix-RTOS 3 will be deployed in Apator Metrix’s next-generation smart gas meters and Saiman’s smart energy meters, as well as future Data Concentrator Units from Energa-Operator. These implementations will reduce hardware requirements, lower power consumption, and cut production costs—strengthening the market position of partners using the system.
