WARSAW, Poland — We are pleased to announce that the European Commission’s Innovation Radar has identified Phoenix Systems as a Key Innovator. A Polish deep-tech company has gained official recognition on the European stage. The solution developed within the international SovereignEdge.Cognit project – funded by the Horizon Europe program – has undergone rigorous evaluation by European Commission experts and has been featured on the Innovation Radar platform. The application for smart metering and prosumption received the highest level of technological maturity („Tech Ready”) and an assessment indicating a high market creation potential. This marks another step in building an independent, European ecosystem for critical infrastructure.
Based on assessments by independent experts, the Innovation Radar identifies and showcases the most promising innovations emerging from EU-funded research. The recognition will soon be published on the Innovation Radar platform, which features more than 13,000 EU-funded innovations from across Europe.
Europe is at a crucial point in its energy transition, where grid decentralization and the growing role of prosumers demand solutions that are not only efficient but, above all, secure and resilient to external threats. This is exactly the need addressed by the SovereignEdge.Cognit project, which aims to build a sovereign data processing environment at the edge of the network (Edge Computing).
As part of this strategic consortium, Phoenix Systems has developed advanced software dedicated to smart meters and energy management systems. Independent experts verifying R&D projects for the European Commission conducted a rigorous audit of this solution. The results are as follows:
- Innovation Title: SovereignEdge.eu COGNIT Application for Energy Smart Metering and Prosumption
- Market Maturity of the Innovation: Tech Ready
- Market Creation Potential: High
About the Innovation Radar
The Innovation Radar is an EU initiative and digital platform aimed at identifying high-potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation projects. For the B2B sector – especially in the strictly regulated Smart Grid industry – inclusion in this register is more than just prestige; it represents objective market validation.
The solution by Phoenix Systems will soon be officially published on the publicly accessible Innovation Radar platform, joining an elite group of selected technologies from across Europe. Furthermore, Phoenix Systems will be identified there as a „Key Innovator”. For measuring infrastructure manufacturers (OEMs) and distribution system operators (DSOs), this is a clear signal: Phoenix Systems’ technology is a verified, mature foundation for building smart and fully European solutions. Making this data publicly available increases transparency and facilitates access for investors and integrators to technology that will tangibly accelerate the digitalization of the European energy sector.
„The 'Tech Ready’ rating and recognition by the Innovation Radar provide hard evidence that our technology genuinely addresses the most pressing challenges of European critical infrastructure,” comments Paweł Pisarczyk, CEO of Phoenix Systems. „Thanks to the COGNIT Project, we will turn a standard energy meter into a Smart Energy Assistant that manages households’ energy production and consumption, leveraging our open source operating system, Phoenix-RTOS, ML algorithms for energy prediction and FaaS runtimes for offloading heavy processing tasks to the cloud-edge continuum. In an era of hybrid threats, we cannot build modern energy systems based on black boxes and non-European technologies. The COGNIT application we have created demonstrates our ability to deliver solutions of the highest maturity to the market – guaranteeing full sovereignty, security of prosumer data transmission, and massive business scaling potential. We are proud that the European Commission’s experts perceive us as a key innovator in this transformation”.
This distinguished technology serves as further proof of the effectiveness of Phoenix Systems’ long-term strategy, which focuses on deploying sovereign software (based on the Phoenix-RTOS operating system) in mission-critical Edge-IoT environments.
